Our Doctors
A tireless advocate for her patients, Dr. Goodman loves being able to take care of kids from birth all the way through college. Her interest in childrens’ health has taken her from West Virginia, to Maryland, Alaska, an Indian reservation in Arizona, rural West Virginia, and finally here to Chicagoland!
"I love being a pediatrician. I love that I never know what I am going to see in a day. My day may start helping a mom with breastfeeding. Then I go into a room and help a family navigate through learning disabilities and ADHD, while the next patient could have the flu. I also love having a whole team dedicated to help in the care of patients."
Dr. Goodman has particular interests in helping new moms breastfeed successfully, taking a team approach for patients struggling with eating disorders, and using technology to enhance the relationships between patients, families, and health care professionals.
"I consider myself an early adopter, always wanting to learn and never afraid to change. That is why I love using technology to help better communicate between patients and their care team and between members of the care team."
As part of her advocacy efforts, she was recently awarded a grant from the IL Department of Transportation, to help create safe biking and walking routes for children heading to school in her local district! She also tries to take short trips on her new electric bike rather than hopping in the car for both health and environmental reasons.
Dr. Goodman is married with 2 sons and a dog (who is also a boy). She doesn’t let being the only female at home stop her from doing things with everyone!
Dr. Goodman received her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College, and her medical degree from West Virginia University. She completed her Pediatrics Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Northwestern University.
Q&A
What are your hobbies?
I love doing things outdoors! I have a kayak, and I try to get out as often as possible on Lake Michigan in the summers. I also have been doing sprint triathlons in the summer. Training for those ensures that I am running, biking and swimming whenever I can. In the winter I swim a mile 1-2 times a week. I just started taking tennis lessons. I love to downhill ski and cross-country ski. And I love to hike.
What's something you think people would be surprised to learn about you?
That I grew up in West Virginia. My dad was a professor at West Virginia University, which brought us there. It was a great place to grow up. I developed a real appreciation for nature, being outdoors, and hiking.
What’s on your playlist right now?
I have a wide range of music from Coldplay to REM, to singer-songwriters like Callahan. I like seeing live music in small intimate settings, and have had a few house concerts in my home. I love to listen to music on my waterproof MP3 player when I swim.
