Our Doctors

Deborah Gulson

Dr. Gulson is a very busy pediatrician at Lake Shore Pediatrics. With four children, a busy practice, and a full slate of community activities, she seems to have limitless energy. She gets a lot of enjoyment from providing top-notch care to her patients.

"I love how fun and motivating the kids can be! Kids keep me smiling!"

Dr. Gulson’s professional interests include educating her patients and families about nutrition, exercise and prevention, and she practices what she preaches!

Dr. Gulson has three sons and a daughter, so she is, as she says, “always coming and going.” She is active in her community, having served on the Board of Directors of LEAD (Linking Efforts Against Drugs) for 6 years, as a Cub Scout leader for 10 years, and as a Boy Scout medical director. In addition, she is the founder of the Helmet Community Initiative, which collaborates with schools, hospitals and communities to instill the importance of wearing bicycle helmets. For this work, Dr. Gulson was awarded the prestigious Ron W. Lee, MD – Excellence in Pediatric Care Award. Awards are given annually by the Illinois Department of Public Health to recognize those dedicated to pediatric emergency care and childhood injury prevention initiatives.

"I’m inspired by the strong patients' parents and staff I work with every day"

After getting her undergraduate degree from Washington University, Dr. Gulson earned her MD from the University of Chicago. She then completed her residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital (now Lurie Children’s Hospital). Dr. Gulson is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Community Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She is a member of the Medical Staff Officers Board at Lurie Children’s Hospital and is the Director of Continuing Medical Education at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.
