Sara Star

Dr. Star considers herself a doctor, teacher, guidance counselor, and mental health advisor. And based on the feedback from her patients, they’re grateful she can fulfill all those roles for them. One of the aspects Dr. Star appreciates the most about pediatrics is the sense of humor displayed by her patients of all ages.

 

"I love to make the kids laugh - AND I love it when they make ME laugh! I also really love to teach kids (and parents) how to take care of their bodies."

 

Dr. Star seeks to create a partnership with the parents of her patients, offering parenting skill training for developmental, nutritional, and safety issues. As her patients become teenagers, her focus shifts to offer adolescent guidance and health prevention. Dr. Star’s professional interests include chronic illness, especially celiac disease, gluten intolerance, and type 1 diabetes. She is skilled at caring for those with complex medical needs and finds educating these families rewarding.

Dr. Star graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with high honors in Biochemistry, and then completed her MD at Northwestern University Medical School. Her pediatric training was completed at Children’s Memorial Hospital (now Lurie Children’s Hospital) in Chicago. She has served on the board of the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center.

What are your hobbies?

Hiking. I have gone hiking in Peru, Spain, Israel, Italy, and in the US - Colorado, Utah, California, Alaska).  Also, I love crossword puzzles!


Tell us about your family life (including pets!)

I have 3 children (2 girls + 1 boy) and 2 fur-babies

The Sherlock Holmes series
